What is a Hybrid?

A hybrid

is a vehicle that incorporates more than one onboard system to achieve propulsion. It can have a traditional internal combustion engine and fuel tank. It could have an electric motor that requires a battery.

Hybrids have been mistaken for electric cars. The former utilizes gas for operation, but has electric components that collect and reuse energy that goes to waste in the average gas vehicle. In theory, a diesel-electric hybrid is a more efficient fuel-based vehicle, but hybrid and diesel systems in the same car would be prohibitively expensive.
